Our client is currently recruiting for a Manufacturing Shift Supervisor to join their team.

The shift supervisor is fully responsible for the employees in manufacturing, creating their work schedules and distributing their duties. This is very much a people person’s role and the successful candidate must have excellent people management skills. They will also manage all the activities that are associated with an efficient, safe and high quality manufacturing operation.

This person will be the responsible contact for the Operations Manager and will have a key role in the success of the business.

Main Job Objective

  • Ensure entire safety of all employees working in a manufacturing department.
  • Lead, direct and monitor every aspect of manufacturing having also a focus on cross-functional activities.
  • Train, coach and supervise senior process operators to attain optimum performance considering every shift.
  • Develop and supervise annual manufacturing budgets.
  • Prioritize, plan and manage manufacturing activities across all shifts to meet manufacturing objectives in a timely and cost effective manner (avoiding downtime and delays)
  • Execute practices to constantly improve production capability, productivity, quality and costs.
  • Assist in re designing and changing facilities and manufacturing equipment to increase productivity and meet new business requirements.
  • Assist operations manager in planning.

Competencies

  • Leads and directs the manufacturing department.
  • Has the authority to give directives to the senior process operators, the material coordinators and to individual employees.
  • Is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing operations and employee performance and controlling and delivering the department KPI’s on a monthly basis.
  • Represents the manufacturing department.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the whole manufacturing team follows hygienic and safety policies.
  • Ensure compliance to customers’ requirements and to comply with the entire Q/A manual to assure manufacturing of high quality products.
  • Comply with the company policy and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Complete daily assigned tasks to meet production volume and schedule.
  • Attend daily meetings to prioritize and plan manufacturing activities to maintain on time delivery and to communicate production status to management on a regular basis.
  • Set standard operating procedures and manufacturing guidelines.
  • Decide employment requirements. Employ interview, monitor and conduct disciplinary methods for all subordinates (after clearance with senior process operators).
  • Ensure to comply with all manufacturing reporting as needed.
  • Develop, maintain and update control procedures, manufacturing forms and working instructions.
  • Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements for high quality, safety and cost effectiveness.
  • Arrange, assign, adjust and monitor shifts in line with business demands.
  • Develop and maintain effective relations with all company employees and with departmental heads at various levels of the organisation. Work with the operations manager to assist in all manufacturing related issues.
  • Collaborate with team as well as external department to implement best practices in manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct routine audits of equipment processes and schedules.
  • Effective use of the company’s time management system.
  • Write and present training to employee performance reviews (M-FEE).
  • Maintain and present training to subordinates on every manufacturing procedure, processes and equipment.
  • Employ, interview, monitor and conduct disciplinary methods for all subordinates.
  • Secure Plant availability (cleaning, servicing and maintenance).
  • Raise purchase orders.
  • Strict cost adherence with agreed budgets.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in a similar role is essential, preferably having completed a course related to management and leadership.
  • Good knowledge of SAP and Microsoft office.
  • Familiar with Process Control Systems (Siemens, Practicon etc).
  • Knowledge in Kaizen, 5S, Lean manufacturing.
  • Experience of GMP and BRC is essential.
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership qualities.
  • Effective communicator and able to clearly give instructions to staff members.

This role offers a very competitive salary for the right candidate and includes a shift allowance for the night shift. Applicants must be able to work a 3 shift system which rotates weekly, 6am – 2pm, 2pm – 10pm and 10pm – 6am.
